Experience as a Public Defender and Criminal Defense in NC

Prior to my own practice, I worked in the Durham County Public Defender’s Office for three and a half years, gaining extensive trial experience. I primarily handled DWI charges, traffic violations, and probation violations, assisting my clients in both District and Superior Criminal Court.

Public defenders work for the people and defend the accused. Everyone has the right to zealous representation to protect them and their interest in every case. In addition, we uphold and ensure that North Carolina’s legal system treats individuals fairly and preserves their rights.

After graduating from North Carolina State University and earning a B.S. in English, I moved to North Carolina Central School of Law for my J.D. Throughout law school, I worked as a support for other criminal defense attorneys in NCCU Law School’s Criminal Defense Clinic. I was one of the first to intern with Legal Aid’s Second Chance Initiative in Wilson, Durham, and Wake County. This program opens access to legal services in low-income communities who have no access to legal help when facing complicated legal issues.

Outside of my professional life, I enjoy travelling, weight lifting, and spending time with my family My practice specializes in criminal law (domestic abuse, traffic violations, DWI, child custody, and license restoration) inside of North Carolina. In addition, I am a member of the George H. White Bar association, 10th District Bar, Wake County Bar, and affiliated with the Black Lawyers Association. I have assisted in thousands of criminal cases in NC

How Criminal Defense Can Improve Your Case Outcome

Hiring a criminal attorney in NC to represent your interests in a case is important and can vastly change the outcome of charges.

Not Guilty of DWI

In 2022, I worked with a Spanish-speaking client charged with a DWI. The police officers in charge of the case, and who conducted the stop, took advantage of my client’s language skills in order to escalate the charges. My client was later found not guilty.

Probation Possession of Firearm

A client of mine with prior convictions was charged with two counts of Possession of a Firearm by Felon and was offered 2 years in prison. After working with my office and speaking to the court, we were able to reduce this sentence to Supervised Probation.

Fighting Domestic Violence Protective Orders (DVPOs)

In 2024, a client was charged with domestic violence and issued a Domestic Violence Protective Orders (DVPOs). Her charges were serious, and she faced the prospect of completely losing custody of her minor child, but we were able to dismiss the DVPO and return custody on a temporary basis.

Process for new clients

After calling and speaking with our front desk, we begin the process of making notice of appearances and scheduling follow-ups to gather information about your case. This notice of appearance is a formal document submitted to notify the court that you are now represented by an attorney.

Later, we schedule in-person or Zoom appointments to meet and discuss the details of your case. If you later find that you have a schedule conflict, you may call and reschedule this meeting.
